On July 7, the Gerard & Anton Awards were presented. This year, the 10 most promising start-ups from the Brainport region were once again put in the spotlight during an event at the High Tech Campus. Kadans Science Partner is a partner of the the Gerard & Anton Awards, which are organised by Innovation Origins. Other partners are High Tech Campus, Ernst & Young, Brainport Development, V.O. Patents & Trademarks and the Municipality of Eindhoven. Philips director Hans de Jong and Eindhoven economics alderman Stijn Steenbakkers addressed the winners,  the last one digitally.

Kadans Science Partner congratulates the winners, including members of the Kadans network OrangeNXT and Bright Photonics. More about all the winners below:

Bright Photonics

Photonics is the solution, and Eindhoven is very good at it. The jury assumes – with many in the region – that photonics will unleash the same economic revolution as electronics 50 years ago. Bright Photonics is a high-tech company for development and design of integrated circuits based on light: Photonic Integrated Circuits or PICs. This has made the company – alongside previous winners Effect Photonics & Smart Photonics – an indispensable link in the value chain of conception, design, making and cracking.
The CEO once said in an interview: “If there is an opportunity, take advantage of it and don’t waste time focusing too much on the risk”. For Ronald Broeke and his team, this evening’s Gerard and Anton Award turns out well.

Carbyon

It’s the sustainable dream, and Carbyon’s working on it. Taking CO2 directly from the atmosphere and reprocessing it into fuel. By using CO2 and green electricity as a basis for synthetic fuels, we can close the CO2 cycle, have clean energy without endangering food production or nature.

Choice for Women

A contraceptive that only needs to be injected once. It has no hormonal side effects and you can turn it on and off from a distance. It sounds almost too good to be true. In our developed world, 1 out of 5 children is still born unwanted, with all the consequences for child, mother and society. With the implants of Choice for Women this belongs to the past. With the Gerard and Anton Award, the jury wants to give a stage to this invention and this company, so that you too can enter the next part of this adventure full of energy and enthusiasm.

EZ Factory

If there’s anything we can learn from aviation, it’s the checklists. Don’t rely on routine, always be aware of what you’re doing. In aviation it’s a matter of life and death. In other sectors, it may not be so dramatic. But quality control and the prevention of waste make conscious action necessary. EZ go h.elps to make that easy

Orange NXT

From meal delivery, management of scales to asphalt damage detection. Everything is digital and connected via the internet. And companies have to keep up. It’s what customers expect of them and what efficient operation requires of them. And that digital transformation of companies is Orange NXT’s field of activity. They develop the office of the future in your pocket. The jury is convinced that smart connections between people, devices and data is an unstoppable trend. But there is no one size fits all, and it is precisely with its customer-oriented approach that Orange NXT distinguishes itself from the market. This is reflected in the growth that doubles every year. Or in the words of the Barbapapa & managing director, Huub van der linden, “We are an ICT company, but different”.

Roosh

Roosh mediates in parking at airports. This has not been a flourishing business the past few months. Then what has? Roosh used its knowledge to develop a platform and roll it out internationally. From parking platform to online marketing agency. After all, business is business.

Tech 2B

257 companies and 534 active users are already finding their way to this platform for the manufacturing industry. Faster, better, cheaper to find your way to the right professionals and companies who can help you further. A not unimportant advantage in today’s economy. It’s no longer about who is the cheapest, it’s about who is the smartest. We are smart together! The success of Brainport Eindhoven is the success that comes from creating collaborations. Initiatives that contribute to this can therefore also count on the support of the jury.

TouchWind

Wind turbines at sea are an important part of the energy transition. But they are also expensive and complex. Huge towers are being built, standing on the seabed. Can’t we keep the windmills afloat? No, they’d blow over… or? The entrepreneurs behind TouchWind worked for twenty years on a technology that would make this way of generating wind energy at sea possible. The entrepreneurs hope to present their prototype next year.

True Sim

It has been shown that 80% of unnecessary deaths are due to a lack of competencies of medical staff. This can easily be prevented by more frequent and better training. But how? With TrueSim, medical staff has the feeling of being in front of a real patient. It is virtual, but lifelike. Acute symptoms can be recognized and threats are as they present themselves in reality. According to the jury, successful innovations meet the paradox of doing more with less. In the case of True Sim, that goes all the way. A higher learning efficiency and quality at a lower cost. And even better in line with the professional practice in which trainees can train more often, more flexibly and for shorter periods of time independently and location-independently instead of being absent for a day or part of a day.

XYZ Dynamics

The transition to electric transport causes tension. The silence and clean air of the past period have once again made us aware of how polluted our cities really are. But replacing tens of thousands of vans needed for construction, transport and services in one go is impossible. XYZ Dynamics comes with an upgrade. After winning a European Start-up of the year award at the Innovation Origins event last week, the start-up of the Automotive Campus Helmond is now once again in the prizes.
