Groningen, April 21, 2023 – Alderman Carine Bloemhoff officially opened Plus Ultra Groningen on Thursday afternoon. The brand-new building is a development by Kadans Science Partner on Campus Groningen. Another great milesone for the campus.
During the festive opening, several guests spoke about the future activities in the building and on the campus. Guests included Michel Leemhuis (CEO at Kadans Science Partner), Jörg Gigler (Managing Director at TKI New Gas), Carine Bloemhoff (Alderman of the Municipality of Groningen), Edward van der Meer (Director at Campus Groningen) and Ben Oudman (Senior Director and regional manager at DNV).
The DNV Technology Centre also opened its doors to give visitors a guided tour. In cooperation with Campus Groningen and Kadans, DNV facilitates the future Innolab with a focus on renewable energy. The aim of the Innolab is to be a common facility for innovative start-ups, spin-offs, and scale-ups in the field of sustainable energy. Besides DNV, TNO has also moved into the building. This makes Plus Ultra Groningen the place for energy innovation.
A strong community
With a wide range of laboratory and office spaces and meeting opportunities, Plus Ultra Groningen facilitates the formation of a strong community. Research and innovation in energy, technology and sustainability is the connecting force between all users.
By accommodating growing and established companies and organisations together in Plus Ultra Groningen, meetings and collaborations are stimulated. Moreover, connections are made between organisations on Campus Groningen, but also with organisations on other campuses. Plus Ultra Groningen is part of Kadans’ international network, which already connects 27 science parks and campuses in Europe.
Campus Groningen
Campus Groningen is the centre for innovation, research and business in the northern Netherlands. The campus is divided between two locations: Zernike Campus, located north of the city, and the Healthy Ageing Campus, located near the UMCG in the city centre. Since the inception of Campus Groningen, more than 250 companies have established themselves on one of these two campuses. This makes Campus Groningen one of the fastest-growing campuses in the Netherlands.
“We are immensely proud to officially open Plus Ultra Groningen. We believe a place like this is of great value for meetings and knowledge sharing between partners. The name ‘Plus Ultra’ means ‘further beyond’, which is a direct reference to the drive to keep innovating and improving. We are looking forward to expanding the Kadans ecosystem even further together with all the parties taking up residence in the building,” says Johan van Gerven, Director Development at Kadans Science Partner.
