Industrial History

Innovation has always been part of Aachen’s identity. In Roman mythology, the “genius loci” represents the unique spirit of a place that shapes both its people and its future.

This spirit continued with electrical engineer Wilhelm Lahmeyer, who founded Garbe, Lahmeyer & Co. together with Heinrich Garbe in 1886. Their pioneering work helped establish Aachen as a centre for technological innovation.

Today, Kadans continues this legacy by transforming the historic site into a modern science cluster where companies develop next-generation battery technologies, advanced materials and sustainable energy solutions.
