We’re so excited to throw open our doors and welcome you to Plus Ultra Utrecht! Our brand-new home for innovation, collaboration, and big ideas in life sciences & health on Utrecht Science Park.
With flexible laboratory and office spaces, co-working labs, and shared facilities, Plus Ultra Utrecht is ready to welcome a new generation of entrepreneurs.
Our official launch will be one big celebration. The afternoon promises inspiring stories, first looks behind the scenes, meeting our very first community members, and plenty of moments to network, explore, and raise a glass.

At 16:20, the first resident of Plus Ultra Utrecht, Edward Dolk, CEO of QVQ, will take the stage with Karel Loerts from ICAT, as well as a few words from Kadans Science Partner’s own Rob van Overbeek.

Peter van der Spek, Professor at Erasmus MC, takes his research to the world of bioinformatics. Here, he explores how AI can aid in understanding genetics. His years of research have led to breakthroughs in understanding and diagnosing the genetics of diseases.
Together with his colleagues and regional partners, Ir. Adamfo (A.E.A.) de Groot MRE, contributes to shaping the future of Utrecht Science Park. The campus is dedicated to discovery, research, valorisation, learning, collaboration, and living while it focuses on four key themes: Dynamics of Youth, Institutions for Open Societies, Life Sciences, and Pathways to Sustainability.
Prof. Dr. Edward Nieuwenhuis, paediatrician by profession, has been Chief Medical Officer of the Princess
Máxima Centre for Paediatric Oncology in Utrecht since February 2025. He has an extensive track record in
both healthcare and scientific fields. From 2009 to 2025, Nieuwenhuis held various positions that combined aspects of child health and medical education, including roles as medical specialist, executive board member, professor, researcher, and national policymaker.
He brings broad leadership experience from his previous roles as Head of Paediatrics at the Wilhelmina
Children’s Hospital in Utrecht, Dean, Director of Research, and Professor of Biomedical and Life Sciences
at University College Roosevelt in Middelburg, and as Chair of the Rare Diseases Centre at Erasmus MC in
Rotterdam.
One of Nieuwenhuis’s key ambitions is to optimally integrate healthcare, medical education, research,
and policy development. He is known as a creative leader with a genuine interest in individuals.
The Princess Máxima Centre is the national centre for paediatric oncology in the Netherlands, and the
largest paediatric oncology centre in Europe. The PMC is a research hospital. The care is provided in close
collaboration with various shared care centres. The integration of care and research, organized on a tumour-specific basis, leads to more healing and fewer harmful effects, before, during and after treatment.
The Princess Máxima Centre employs approximately 1.600 people, of whom 500 work in research.
