Amsterdam Medical Business Park: innovative genetic mapping and advanced therapeutics
Driving impact by advancing therapeutics at Amsterdam Medical Business Park.
An inspiring environment for research, development, and innovation
The sustainable environment of the Amsterdam Medical Business Park is an excellent location for life sciences, healthcare, high-tech, and sustainable companies. The campus includes the specialised medical knowledge and research facilities of the Amsterdam University Medical Centre (A-UMC). They develop new methods for diagnostics and treatment together with professionals from other renowned national and international institutions. The main focus of the campus is on complex patient care and highly specialised treatment of rare medical conditions.
Societal impact through valorisation
Amsterdam prioritises ensuring that its expertise is swiftly and purposefully shared beyond its own walls, so it can benefit patients and citizens globally, helping them achieve and maintain good health. Amsterdam UMC has embedded ‘societal impact’ as a formal task in everything the organisation does. There are many examples of projects from Amsterdam UMC that have great value for society. Such as an antibody that protects against the RS virus, which is life-threatening for newborn babies, or a medical device that uses algorithms to analyse brain signals to identify the specific type of stroke at an early stage.
Small area, big impact: 3,100 life science organisations
This region is small and densely populated with companies involved in life sciences and data. There are over 3,100 organisations within a 32-kilometre radius, Physically connecting companies in each district and encouraging regional interaction. The Amsterdam Life Sciences District is an important part of the greater Amsterdam region. Here, new professionals are trained, combining their expertise with cutting-edge technologies. There is a focus on AI and data, specifically for cardiovascular monitoring and data integration. Numerous clinical studies and medical devices are researched and developed here, often in collaboration with industrial partners – which could be you!
Clinical research
Research at Amsterdam UMC is led by more than 440 professors and consists of eight research institutes: Amsterdam Neuroscience, Amsterdam Public Health, Amsterdam Movement Sciences, Amsterdam Institute of Infection and Immunity, Cancer Center Amsterdam, Amsterdam Reproduction & Development, Amsterdam Gastroenterology Endocrinology Metabolism, and Amsterdam Cardiovascular Sciences. Within these eight research institutes, researchers with a medical background collaborate with researchers from other fields, both at the University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. This level of collaboration is also supported by the Amsterdam Institute of Global Health and Development.
Our specialised assets at Amsterdam Medical Business Park
The Amsterdam Medical Business Park is one of the important regions where exciting and significant developments in healthcare are taking place. It is the intersection of genetic mapping and advanced therapeutic or health research. The city is home to several research institutes, which are part of the Amsterdam Life Science District, and in close proximity to Schiphol Airport.
Plus Ultra Amsterdam
Plus Ultra Amsterdam encourages innovation in Life Sciences & Health. The area meets the increasing international demand for lab space in this area. Plus Ultra Amsterdam has important advantages. Research companies can access Amsterdam UMC’s knowledge. UMC researchers, in turn, can benefit from the new building. Genetic research works best when researchers from different disciplines join forces and when universities, hospitals and industry can work together. Find yourself working next to AstraZeneca, previously Neogene, and the Tytgat Institute for Liver and Intestinal Research.
